Jacó & Los Sueños Sportfishing

Jacó Fishing Charter

Costs, seasons, and what to expect from a sportfishing charter out of Jacó and the Los Sueños marina.

Jacó and the neighboring Los Sueños marina sit on one of the best billfish coasts on the planet. Boats run just minutes offshore into blue water loaded with sailfish, marlin, mahi-mahi (dorado), tuna, and roosterfish. Whether it's your first time holding a rod or you're chasing a grander marlin, there's a charter for you.

What a charter costs

Charters are quoted per boat, not per person — so your whole group shares one rate. The price comes down to two things: how long you fish and how far offshore you go.

Trip typeLengthWhat you'll target
InshoreHalf day (~4h)Roosterfish, snapper — great for families and first-timers
Offshore3/4 day (~6–7h)Sailfish, dorado, tuna
OffshoreFull day (~8h)Marlin, serious billfish hunting

Instead of a one-size price, we give you an exact quote for your group, dates, and target species. Charters typically include the boat, captain and mate, fuel, licenses, tackle, bait, water and sodas — lunch and crew tip are usually extra.

What's biting and when

  • Sailfish — peak December through April, but caught year-round.
  • Marlin — strongest August through October (blue marlin), present much of the year.
  • Mahi-mahi (dorado) — best in the green season, May through August.
  • Tuna — year-round, following the bait.
  • Roosterfish & inshore — year-round, great for shorter inshore trips.

Inshore or offshore — which should you book?

  • New to fishing, kids aboard, or prone to seasickness? Start inshore — calmer water, steady action, shorter day.
  • Here for the billfish? Go offshore — the blue water is where the sailfish and marlin live, about 20–30 minutes out.
  • Not sure? Tell us your group and your goals and we'll match you to the right boat and captain.
